BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed at the unscored University of Toledo Tune-Up today (Friday, May 7, 2010) at the UT Varsity Track in Toledo. Highlighting the meet for BW was a school-record shot put by senior All-American thrower Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve).
Patrick won the shot put event with a mark of 55 feet, 10 and one-half inches to break his own school-mark set in late April. His throw also reached an automatic qualifying mark for the NCAA Division III Championship meet that will be hosted by BW from May 27-29.
Also for the men, junior Kevin Phipps (Pataskla/Watkins Memorial) won the hammer throw at 179'9" and placed third in the discus throw at 166'10." Senior Brett Scarl (North Olmsted) was second to Phipps in the hammer at 170'11" and freshman Mitch Supan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) was fifth in the discus at 160'6." SeniorSteve Price (North Olmsted) finished second in the pole vault at 12'9.50." Sophomore Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/Calvert) and senior Brian Campbell (Berea) placed second and third in the 5,000-meter run with respective times of 15:48.50 and 16:01.97.
For the women, junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) finished second in the 1,500-meter run at 4:43.98.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action at the Allegheny (Pa.) College Gator Invite in Meadville, Pennsylvania next Friday, May 14.
