BW Track and Field Teams Compete on Day Two of UNCC 49er Classic; Patrick Set Shot Put Record

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed on day two (Saturday, March 20) of the 2010 University of North Carolina-Charlotte 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte.

On the men's side, All-American senior thrower Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) set a school-record in the shot put with a mark of 54 feet, 10 inches.  The previous school-record was set by Jim Tillotson in 1975 with a throw of 54'4.5".  Patrick placed second overall in a field consisting heavily of Division I competitors and hit a high provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championship meet in late May. 

Also in the shot put, freshman Zach Marinucci (Brunswick) finished seventh overall with a throw of 47'9.75".  Senior Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) took first place in the discus event with a throw of 166"9" to hit a high provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships.

Freshman thrower Mitch Suppan (Medina/Walsh Jesuit) took fourth place in the discus with a throw of 157'5" and also hiit a provisional qualifying mark. Patrick finished seventh in the discus event as well with a throw of 147'4".  Senior Steve Price (North Olmsted) placed fifth in the pole vault with a height of 13'7.25" and freshman Jeremy Harris (Beachwood) placed seventh in the event with a height of 13'1.5" Senior James Eberts (North Canton/Hoover) finished ninth overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:13.05. 

On the women's side, freshman Lynne Fahy (Ontario, N.Y./Wayne Central) placed 10th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:48.58.  Junior thrower Rachel Marinucci (Brunswick) placed ninth overall in the shot put with a toss of 39'8.75".  

The Yellow Jackets are now idle until the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet on Saturday, April 3 at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

Alumni, media and fans also are reminded that BW will host the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet from May 27-29 at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. This is the fifth time that the College has hosted the NCAA Div.
