BW Men Second, Women Third at Oberlin Invitational; Throwers Compete at Findlay Open

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed at the 2010 Oberlin College Invitational this evening (Friday, February 5) at the John W. Heisman Fieldhouse in Oberlin. The men placed second of four teams and the women were third of five squads. The Yellow Jacket throwers also competed separately at the University of Findlay Open in Tiffin.

For the men at Findlay, senior reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Co-Field Athlete of the Week Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) improved his national provisional qualifying mark in the shot put with a throw of 52 feet, one inch -- good for third-place overall.

At Oberlin, the BW men had three individual champions. Senior Steve Price (North Olmsted) won the long jump with a distance of 20'8". Junior Zach Poole (Mentor) was first in the high jump at 5'10" and freshmanJeremy Harris (Beachwood) won the pole vault in 13'5.5".

Also, senior Kareem Ibrahim (North Olmsted) was second in the triple jump at 39'11.50" and third in the long jump at 19'7.75". Sophomore Matt Hill (Painesville/ Harvey) was third in the triple jump at 37'6.75" and juniorDrew Matak (Salem/ Senior) was third in the 55-meter dash at 6.68 seconds.

The 4x200-meter relay team of Hill, junior Kevin Stoll (Norwalk/ Western Reserve), sophomore Stewart Pozzuto (Washington, Pa./ Trinity) and sophomore Dan Sloat (Medina/ Senior) placed second in 1:36.86.

For the women at Oberlin, four Yellow Jackets won individual events. Senior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) won both the one-mile run (5:12.25) and the 800-meter run (2:25.54). Freshman Brittany Sterling (Lima/ Senior) was first in the 55-meter dash (7.67) and the 200-meter dash (27.98).

Also, junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) was second in the mile at 5:15.27 and third in the 3,000-meter run at 10:49.92. Sophomore Kara Kasper (Amherst/ Steele) placed third in the 55-meter hurdles (9.19), freshman Kayla Lemon was third in the 200-meter dash (28.31), and sophomore Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield/ Medina Buckeye) was third in the 800-meter run (2:27.98).

In addition, the 4x200-meter relay team of freshmen Jessica Ballard (Cardington/ Buckeye Valley)Lauren Nanni (Parma/ Padua Franciscan)Lemon and Sterling placed third in 1:55.31.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Friday, February 12 for the annual BW Mid-February Meet at 5:00 p.m. on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse in Berea. Also on Saturday, February 13, BW's throwers compete at the Kent State University Open Meet at 11:00 a.m. and the Jacket decathletes and pentathletes compete at Ohio Wesleyan University.
