BW Women Win Team Title; Men Third at OWU Marv Frye Meet in Delaware

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field team placed first and the men were third of 15 teams competing at the annual Marv Frye Invitational Meet at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio on Saturday, April 10. This is the fourth week of spring competition for the Yellow Jackets.

The BW women scored 97.50 points to capture the team championship and the men had 79 points to finish third.

Individually for the Yellow Jacket men, junior Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/ Watkins Memorial) won both the discus with a throw of 160-feet and nine inches and the hammer with a throw of 190'4". In addition, seniorGreg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) won the shot put with a throw of 53'7.5."

For the women, freshman Sara Rospert (Milan/ Edison) won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:01.20, senior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) won the 1,500 meter run in an NCAA Division III National Meet provisional qualifying-time of 4:33.44, junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) won the 5,000-meter run in 17:38.79 and senior Marina Ortiz (Tucson, Ariz./ Salpointe Catholic) won the javelin with a throw of 119'4".

The Yellow Jackets next compete on Saturday, April 17 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to compete at the annual All-Ohio Championship Meet. Field events begin at 11:00 a.m.

To date, seven Yellow Jackets are qualified either automatically or provisionally for the 2010 NCAA Championship Meet. They are Phipps in the discus and hammer, Patrick in the shot put, Chinn in the 1,500 meters and 3000 steeplechase, Hlavin in the 1,500, freshman Mitch Supan (Medina/ Walsh Jesuit) in the discus, senior Steve Price (North Olmsted) in the decathlon and junior Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) in the heptathlon.
