Baldwin Wallace Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams Host Sparky Adams Invitational in Berea

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed today (Saturday, April 24, 2010) as it hosted the Sparky Adams Invitational Meet in Berea.  The meet was unscored.

Highlighting the day for the men was senior Greg Patrick (Collins/Western Reserve) who won the shot put and bettered his school record and NCAA provisional mark with a throw of 55'1.50". Junior All-American Kevin Phipps (Pataskala/Watkins Memorial) won the hammer throw with a mark of 180'08" and placed second in the discus with a mark of 161'10". Senior Brett Scarl (North Olmsted) came in second place with a throw of 166'09" in the hammer. Freshman Jake Buckey (Geneva) was third in the javelin at 178'2".
 
The women's team was led by senior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) who ran an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 800-meter run with a first place time of 2:13.97. Junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/West Muskingum) was also third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:15.94. Freshman Sarah Rospert (Milan /Edison) placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 12:02.62. The relay team of freshman Jessica Ballard (Cardington/Buckeye Valley), freshman Brittany Sterling (Lima/Senior), freshman Lauren Nanni (Parma/Padua Franciscan), and freshman Kaylan Lemon (Canton/Massillon Perry) placed second in the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 49.93. 
 
The Yellow Jackets return to action next Friday and Saturday, April 30 and May 1, at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet at Mount Union College in Alliance, Ohio.
