BW Track and Field Teams Compete on Day One of UNCC 49er Classic; Chinn Improves Qualifying Mark

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's outdoor track & field teams competed on day one (Friday, March 19) of the 2010 University of North Carolina-Charlotte 49er Classic at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center in Charlotte. The Yellow Jackets compete on the second and final day of the meet tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.

On the women's side, junior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) placed second overall out of 73 competitors in the 1,500-meter run. She finished in 4:35.10 to improve her provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships in late May.

Freshman Cristina Perrine (Middleburg Heights/ Midpark) was fifth in the discus throw with a mark of 125 feet, nine inches, and was followed by junior Rachel Marinucci (Brunswick) in sixth place (123'5") and freshman Stefani Graber (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) in ninth (117'6"). The three were the top Division III finishers in the event. Marinucci also placed 10th overall in the hammer throw at 139'5."

For the men, senior Brett Scarl (North Olmsted) placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 160'1" and All-American senior Greg Patrick (Collins/ Western Reserve) was eighth at 156'7."

Following day two of the meet tomorrow, the Yellow Jackets are idle until the Ohio Athletic Conference Split Meet on Saturday, April 3 at Marietta College in Marietta.

Alumni, media and fans also are reminded that BW will host the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet from May 27-29 at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea. This is the fifth time that the College has hosted the NCAA Div.
