Price Finishes Third in Decathlon and Oliver Fourth in Heptathlon at Liberty (Va.) Meet

BEREA, OHIO -  Senior Steve Price (North Olmsted) scored a career-high and NCAA Division III National Meet automatic qualifying 6,718 points to place third the 10-event decathlon and junior Emily Oliver (Waynesburg/ Sandy Valley) scored a career-high and NCAA provisional qualifying 4,130 points to place fourth in the seven-event heptathlon at the 2010 Liberty (Va.) University Invitational Meet today (Saturday, April 3).  

Combined, Price and Oliver had 10 career bests, including five each, during the two days of competition. Now both competitors are qualified for the 2010 NCAA Division III National Championship Meet that BW will host from May 27-29.  See more below.

Price, who placed 12th in the decathlon at last year's NCAA Division III National Championship Meet, shattered his previous career-high of 6,497 points by 211 points en route to his third place finish.  He also had five career-bests.


Emily Oliver

On the first day, Price was fifth in the 100 meter dash in 11.53 seconds (746 points), third in the long jump with a leap of 22-feet and two and two-quarter inches (757 points), third in the shot put with a throw of 38'1.5" (583 points), tied for first in the high jump at 6'4.75" (758 points) and sixth in the 400 meter dash in a career-best time of 52.43 seconds (706 points). Today, Price was sixth in the 1500 meter run in a career-best time of 5:01.98 (548 points), third in the 110 meter high hurdles in a career-best time of 15.56 seconds (783 points), fourth in the pole vault with a career-best vault of 14'3.25" (716 points), third in the discus with a career-best throw of 113'3"(554 points) and third in the javelin with a throw of 159'3" (567 points).

Oliver, who placed 15th in the five-event pentathlon at this winter's NCAA Division III Indoor National Championship Meet, shattered her previous career-best of 3,886 points by 244 points en route to placing fourth.  She also had five career-bests.

On the first day, Oliver was sixth in the 100 meter hurdles with a career-best time of 15.99 seconds (715 points), eighth in the high jump at 4'9" (566 points), sixth in the shot put at 30'8.25" (487 points) and tied for sixth in the 200 meter dash in a career-best time of 27.26 seconds (690 points). Today, she was sixth in the long jump with a career-best leap of 15'7.75"(498 points), fourth in the javelin with a career-best throw of 92'10" (444 points) and first in the 800 meter run with a career-best time of 2:27.11 (730 points).

In addition to Price and Oliver competing at Liberty, the rest of the Yellow Jacket men and women's track and field teams competed today at the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference East Meet at Marietta College and Don Drumm Stadium. Results were not available at the time of this press release.

Alumni, media and fans also are reminded that BW will host the 2010 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship Meet from May 27-29 at The George Finnie Stadium in Berea.
