Women's Soccer Falls to Ohio Wesleyan Concluding Non-Conference Play

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play tonight, falling to Ohio Wesleyan University by a final score of 3-0 on Tressel Field inside The George Finnie Stadium.

In their first matchup since 2016, BW (7-4) saw its historical record against Ohio Wesleyan (5-6) drop to 3-6.

There were minimal legitimate scoring opportunities for both squads in the first half. The ball hovered in the neutral portion of the field for the majority of the frame, as both teams battled for possession. The weather also presented problems as a light rain made its way to the field and decreased traction and maneuverability. The Yellow Jackets won the first half shots on goal battle 2-1 as the game remained scoreless headed to break.

The Battling Bishops came out strong in the second half, scoring two goals in the frame's first ten minutes. At the 49th minute, Ohio Wesleyan junior Ashley Smiley scored the game's first goal on a headered in cross from freshman Isabella Geiler. Then, in the 54th minute, junior Korntey McGinnis scored on a penalty kick to put Ohio Wesleyan up 2-0. The Battling Bishops sealed the game in the 86th minute when sophomore Julia Dickman capitalized on an errand BW pass to conclude tonight's score at 3-0.

Senior Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) made six saves on nine shots faced, and saw her record drop to 7-2 on the year.

BW will begin conference play on Saturday, October 5 when it hosts Capital University on Tressel Field at 7:00 p.m.
