Women's Soccer Falls to Heidelberg in OAC Contest

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer suffered an Ohio Athletic Conference defeat from Heidelberg University by a final score of 2-0 on Tressel Field in the George Finnie Stadium.

With tonight's loss against Heidelberg (5-7-1), BW (7-8) fell to 19-14-1 in all-time matchups against the conference foe.

The Student Princes were able to cease an early opportunity in the first half. In the 12th minute of the game, Heidelberg senior Erica Campbell chased down senior McKenzie Perry's clear attempt from a three-quarter field's length, then chipped the ball in the far-side corner of the net, as BW defenders came closing in to chase her down. The light drizzle that appeared before the game transformed into a downpour towards the end of the first half. Nevertheless, both teams fought the elements and continued to battle for possession, and simplify their play.

The Student Princes added on to their lead in the 80th minute, when junior Madison Zimmerman banked in a cross from Campbell to put Heidelberg up 2-0. Despite the score, the Yellow Jackets were able to generate several scoring opportunities by outshooting Heidelberg 5-3 in the match as well as claiming the corner kick battle 7-2. Ultimately, BW could not find the back of the net in 90 minutes of play and time expired.

Yellow Jackets senior goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) made one save on three shots faced, and saw her record drop to 7-6 on the year.

BW returns to the pitch for an OAC matchup on Saturday, October 19, when it travels to New Concord to take on Muskingum University at 5:00 p.m. on North Athletic Turf Field.
