KANSAS CTY, Mo. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's soccer teams have been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches as Team Academic Award recipients for the 2019-20 academic year.
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
To be recognized, a team must be an active member of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program and maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.
Under the guidance of veteran head coach Reid Ayers, the men's soccer team was one of 345 teams to be honored as it carried a 3.42 grade point average. The 2019-20 award marked the 13th time in school history the program was recognized, including the 10th straight season.
Under the direction of third-year head coach Jim Wojtkun, the women's soccer team was one of 568 teams to be honored as it maintained a 3.46 grade point average. The 2019-20 award marks the 19th overall and 19th straight season the program has achieved the distinction.
The 2020 men's and women's soccer fall seasons were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both teams will return to the pitch for a 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference spring schedule on March 14.
