PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated NAIA opponent Carlow (Pa.) University by a final score of 3-0 in Highmark Stadium, home of the United Soccer League's Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

BW's (5-2) three goals against Carlow (Pa.) (2-5) marks a season high for the Yellow Jackets, as they win the first ever matchup between the two programs.

BW had their fair share of chances in the first half as they fired four shots on goal in the frame compared to Carlow's one, but could not get one past the Celtics keeper.

The Yellow Jackets seemed to have saved their firepower for the second half where they exploded for three goals, both a half and season-high. BW's first goal was scored by sophomore midfielder Maddie Farrell (Macomb, Mich./Dakota) in the 52nd minute, who notched her second goal of the season off a cross in the box by freshman midfielder Brandi Filippi (Pickering/North).Senior midfielder Kenna Poptic (Dublin/Jerome) was selected to take a penalty shot for the Yellow Jackets seven minutes later and buried her first goal of the season to put BW up 2-0. Filippi added in on the action with her first collegiate goal in the last minute of the game, providing some insurance for the Yellow Jackets as the clock then trickled down to a 3-0 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Emma Bruno's (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) scoreless run stays alive as she has now amazingly not allowed a goal in 465:39 of play this season. Bruno stopped all four shots she faced, improving her record to 5-0 on the year, as well as earning her fifth straight shutout and the 17th of her career.

BW returns to the pitch for their home opener on Wednesday, September 18 after starting the season with seven straight road games. The Yellow Jackets will take on Hiram College in a non-conference matchup on Tressel Field at 7:00 p.m.
