Four Baldwin Wallace Women's Basketball Players Named Academic All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team landed four of its student-athletes on the 2008-09 Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference team announced this morning (Tuesday, March 17). They are senior guards Jessica Butzer (Orrville), Amanda Mondrach (Parma/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and Rachael Quiring (Brunswick/ Parma Heights Holy Name) and junior center Ariel Brough (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty.

Mondrach, a sport management and business administration double-major, is a three-time Academic All-OAC pick with a 3.46 grade point average. She is also a three-time All-OAC performer, started all 118 Yellow Jacket games during the past four seasons, and scored 985 career points. She was named the OAC's Freshman of the Year and was selected to the DIII News National All-Freshman team in 2006.

 

 

 

Quiring, a pre-physical therapy and exercise science double-major, is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection with a 3.46 grade point average. She played in 104 career games and totaled 596 points, 211 assists, 87 steals and 100 free throws. She also was named an honorable mention All-OAC pick as a junior in 2007-08. Quiring closed out her career with a personal-best 21 points versus Hope (Mich.) College in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on March 7.

Butzer, a sport management major with a 3.5 grade point average, is a first-time Academic All-OAC pick. She was also named a second-team All-OAC performer earlier this month. Playing nearly injury-free for the first time in her career, Butzer came off the bench this season to average 10.3 points-per-game. She also hit the game-winning shot in round one of the OAC Tournament versus Otterbein College on February 24.

Brough,  a member of BW's Honors Program and political science major with a 3.96 grade point average,  is now a two-time Academic all-OAC pick. She also earned ESPN THE MAGAZINE Academic All-District IV honors in February. Brough holds the BW single-season (80 in 2008-09) and career (170) blocked shots records and was named an honorable mention All-OAC selection earlier this month.

The Yellow Jackets ended their season with a solid 22-8 overall record, had its 12th season of 20 or more wins in the past 13 seasons, advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the 11th time in the last 14 years (11-11 record), including reaching the second round for the third time in the past four seasons and placed second during both the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season (14-4) and in the OAC Tournament.
