This was a great opportunity for the BW women's basketball team to give back to a local community during the holiday season and enjoy some time with children. The student-athletes served as role models and leaders and had the opportunity to share their positive experiences at the College and being a member of the women's basketball team.
"That was a really awesome experience!," said Brunswick native and senior honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference player and co-captain Rachael Quiring following the trip. "I was helping one of the students with his reading and just couldn't pull myself away. I didn't want to leave even though I had to be at work."
Not only did the students at Kidder Elementary have the opportunity for one-on-one interaction and an extra educational experience with members of the team, the Yellow Jacket women were able to have an uplifting experience learning from the students. The student-athletes also enjoyed interaction, and following the experience commented, "this was an amazing experience" and "we can't wait to do that again."
"This was a great opportunity for our students to give back to the community during their winter break," said BW Head Coach Cheri Harrer. "We feel it is important to be involved in the community and incorporate service into our program. We are very grateful that Kidder Elementary and more specifically Principal Mark Mabry allowed us this amazing opportunity. The women all loved this experience."
We appreciated this opprtunity to have the team out here and to work with our students," said Mabry, a 1978 graduate of the College and a 1983 master's degree recipient of BW. "The kids obviously really enjoyed the experience and we really appreciated the help."
