Men's Swimming and Diving Opens Season at Spartan Relays

CLEVELAND – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team opened the 2019-20 season as it competed in the unscored Spartan Relays hosted by Case Western Reserve University inside the Veale Natatorium.

BW was led by four relay teams that finished in third place. 

The 3x100-yard butterfly squad of sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference performer Michael Lewis (Lancaster), freshman Immanuel Ayangoke (Jacksonville, Fla./Bolles Academy) and senior All-OAC performer Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) finished third in a time of 2:47.03. The 500-yard freestyle unit of Shaw, Ayangoke, junior Academic All-OAC performer Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf)and freshman Austin Wharton (New Albany/Lincoln) placed third in a time of 4:49.63. The 200-yard freestyle team of Butt, freshman Nathan Massey (Columbus/Centennial), freshman Alec McNeill (Avon Lake) and Ayangoke took third in a time of 1:37.46. The 400-yard medley relay squad of junior Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), Lewis, Shaw and freshman Austin Olsavsky (Medina) finished third in a time of 3:50.83.

In addition, the  3x100-yard backstroke unit of Morsch, Massey and Olsavsky placed fourth in a time of 3:00.75. The 3x100-yard breaststroke team of Lewis, sophomore Conner Hartup (Westlake) and McNeil took fourth in a time of 3:27.87. The 800-yard freestyle team of Butt, Wharton, Massey and Olsavsky finished fourth in a time of 8:04.74. The 400-yard individual medley squad of Lewis, Hartup, McNeil and Morsch took fourth in a time of 4:07.34 The 400-yard freestyle unit of Butt, Wharton, Morsch and Olsavsky placed fourth in a time of 3:30.75.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 19 when they host an OAC and home opening dual meet against Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
