Men’s Swimming and Diving Team Drops OAC Finale to Crosstown Rival John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio  – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team closed out the Ohio Athletic Conference portion of it schedule as it fell to crosstown rival John Carroll University by a final score of 209-87 in the William H. Johnson Natatorium inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

BW (2-6, 1-3 OAC) was led by freshman diver Zachary Pierce (Spring, Texas/Klein Collins) as he won both diving events for the second straight day.  Pierce won the 1-meter dive event with a career-best total of 285.25 points and the 3-meter event with 282.85 points

Also earning a victory was sophomore All-OAC performer Michael Lewis (Lancaster) as he won the 100-yard individual medley in a time of 54.48 seconds.  Lewis also was the runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke in times of 1:00.29 and 2:18.30.

In addition, junior freestyler Conner Hartup (Westlake) finished second in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:35.69.  Senior All-OAC performer Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) took second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 54.57 and was third in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:06.83.  Senior All-OAC diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) placed third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with 190.85 and 148.65 points, respectively.  Junior Academic All-OAC performer Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) took third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.96.  Junior stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) was third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.33.  Freshman stroker Austin Olsavsky (Medina) finished third in the 100-yard freestyle, 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle in times of 50.86, 1:50.10 and 5:09.52, respectively.

The Yellow Jackets return to action on Saturday, January 25  when they close  out the home portion of their schedule when they host a non-conference and Seniors' Day dual meet against the College of Wooster at 1 p.m.

BW hosts the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday-Saturday, February 13-15 at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action begins each day at 10 a.m. with finals to be held each night at 6 p.m.
