Pierce Named OAC Diver of the Year, Men’s Swimming and Diving Finishes Fourth at OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – Freshman diver Zachary Pierce (Willis, Texas/Klein Collins) was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Diver of the Year after winning both 1-meter and 3-meter events to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team to a fourth place finish at the OAC Championships, which was hosted by BW, in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

The Yellow Jackets finished fourth of five teams with 369 points. John Carroll University won its fourth straight title with 967 points.

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

Pierce won the 3-meter and 11-dive event with a career-best and NCAA Division III B cut total points of 478.25 to claim his second All-OAC of the weekend.  He won the 1-meter and 11-event dive event with a career-best and NCAA Division III B cut total points  of 433.95 on Friday night.

Also earning all OAC honors was senior All-OAC diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) as he finished third in the 3-meter and 11-dive event with a career-best total points of 346.50 to earn his third career All-OAC accolade.

In addition, senior All-OAC performer Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs), who swam a season-best 2:00.70 in the prelims, came in seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:02.59. Junior stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), who swam a season-best time of 1:59.88 in the prelims, took ninth in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:00.17. Junior freestyler Conner Hartup (Westlake) was 10th in the 1650-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 18:41.94. Freshman freestyler Austin Olsavsky (Medina) took 10th in the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 48.41 seconds.  Junior Academic All-OAC freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf), who swam a career-best 48.24 in the prelims, touched the wall 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 48.46. Freshman freestyler Austin Wharton (New Albany) came in 11th in the 1650-yard freestyle in a time of 19:15.31. Sophomore All-OAC stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) took 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:16.32.

In relay action,  the 400-yard relay squad of  Lewis, Butt, Olsavsky and Morsch finished fourth in a season-best time of 3:12.74
