BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Ninth-Year Head Swimming and Diving Coach Laura Demaline has announced that Justin Davis, Dr. Michael Diamond '11 and Kari Basiewicz have joined her 2019-20 staff as assistant coaches.
"I am very excited about the addition of these coaches to our staff, stated Demaline. "We always strive to have the best coaches on deck and feel that with this staff we have continued to provide an extremely high level of coaching for our student-athletes. We are committed as a staff to bringing an OAC Championship back to BW and I couldn't have picked a better group to do that with!"
Davis will serve as an assistant swimming coach. He comes to BW after serving as an assistant swimming and diving and tennis coach at Hamilton Heights (Ind.) High School for the past three years. Davis was the head swimming and diving coach at Power Aquatics for one season. In addition to his coaching duties, Davis has been an instructional assistant and a substitute teach at Hamilton Heights. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in business administration and sport management from Ball State University and a earned a Master's Degree in business administration with a concentration in management. Davis was a member of the Indiana National Guard for two years.
Diamond will serve as an assistant swimming coach. He returns to his alma mater after serving as swim coach at St. John High School and the YMCA of Ashtabula for the past three years. As a student-athlete at BW, Diamond was a four-year letterwinner on the swimming and diving. He currently still is a member of the school-record 800-meter freestyle relay team. Out of the pool, Diamond is a Chiropractic Physician at Diamond Chiropractic and Physical Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in pre-physical therapy from BW and a doctor of chiropractic from New York Chiropractic College.
Basiewicz will serves as an assistant diving coach. She is no stranger to BW as she also enters her fourth year as an assistant athletic trainer at the university covering football, swimming and diving and women's lacrosse. Prior to BW, Basiewicz worked for Southwest General Hospital Group as an assistant athletic trainer at Midpark High School for six years. She worked as a diving coach at the University of Northern Colorado for two seasons and at Springfield High School in Illinois for four years. Basiewicz earned a Bachelor of Arts in kinesiology with and emphasis in athletic training and fitness exercise from Northern Colorado and a Masters of Arts in education from the University of Connecticut.
BW opens the 2019-20 campaign on Friday, October 4 when it travels to Cleveland to compete in the Case Western Reserve University Relays inside the Veale Natatorium at 6 p.m. The Yellow Jackets open Ohio Athletic Conference action on Saturday, October 19 when it hosts Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium. The Yellow Jackets will serve as the host university for the 2020 OAC Championships at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron from February 13-15.
