Athletic Department Announces Bonnie Raye Scholar Athlete Award Winners

BEREA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University Athletic Department has announced women's swimmer Shari Gordnier (Centerville/Dayton Regional Stem) and women's lacrosse defender Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) as its 2020 Co-Bonnie Raye Scholar Athlete Award winner.

The Bonnie Raye Scholar Athlete Award is presented annually to the senior female student-athlete that has the highest cumulative grade point average in her academic work at the University. The 2020 award was presented to two student-athletes with identical GPAs.

Gordnier is a national security major that carries a 3.98 grade point average. She is a two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student and a Jacket Scholar. Gordnier received the BW Academic Excellence Award as a sophomore for having the highest GPA on the team. This season, she set a career-best in the 50-yard freestyle. Gordnier had her best season as a collegian as a freshman when she set career-bests in 50-yard back­stroke, 100-yard backstroke, 100-yard butterfly, 100-yard freestyle, 100-indi­vidual medley, 200-yard backstroke, 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley, 400-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle.

Stein is an international business and finance double major that carries a 3.98 grade point average. She is a three-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection, Dean's List student, Jacket Scholar and member of the Alpha Lambda Delta and Chi Alpha Sigma honoraries. Athletically, Stein is a three-time All-OAC selection, 2019 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWCLA) All-Great Lakes Region first-team selection and the 2019 OAC Defensive Player of the Year. For her career, Stein appeared in 52 games, recording 43 goals and 10 assists for 53 points.  She also tallied 114 ground balls, 229 draw controls, and 82 caused turnovers. Stein is the school-record holder for draw controls in a game, draw controls in a season, draw controls in a career, caused turnovers in a game and free position shooting percentage in a game. She also ranks fourth in caused turnovers, sixth in ground balls, seventh in free position shooting percentage and eighth in games played, eighth in free position goals and eighth in free position shots on the program's all-time career leaderboards.
