Men's Swimming and Diving Team Wins First Meet of Season with OAC Victory Over Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and simming and diving team won its first meet of the season as it earned an Ohio Athletic Conference victory against Wilmington College in the Wilmington Natatorium.

BW (1-1, 1-0 OAC) defeated Wilmington by a final score of 121-83.   

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) as he won the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard breaststroke in times of 2:03.46 and 1:09.32. 

Also picking up wins were senior stroker Tyler Allison (Napoleon), junior All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs), sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf), freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) and freshman stroker Christian Velasquez (Fulshear, Texas/Seven Lakes).  Allison brought home the win in the 100-yard individual medley. Shaw won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:02.08.  Butt captured the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:43.77.  Morsch took the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.94. Velasquez won the 800-yard freestyle in a time of 9:41.18.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of Morsch, Lewis, Shaw and senior stroker John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) touched the wall first in a time of 1:52.92.  The 200-yard freestyle Allison, sophomore stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario), Shaw and Butt won in a time of 1:45.25. 

BW is back in action on Saturday, November 3 when it hosts Manchester (Ind.) University in its first home dual meet in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
