Men’s Swimming and Diving Sets Three School Records on First Day of OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team set three schools records and stands in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Wilmington College in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW is fifth of five teams with 59 points. Defending OAC Champion and crosstown rival John Carrol leads with 257 points. 

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster), who earned his first career All-OAC honor, as he set the school-record in the prelims and then bested his time in the finals of the 200-yard individual medley when he finished third with the school-record time of 1:55.06. 

In addition, sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) finished 10th in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 1:59.02.  Sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) took 12th in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 4:57.09.

In relay action, the 400-yard medley unit of Morsch, Lewis, junior All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) and Butt took fourth in a school-record time of 3:29.34.  During the lead leg, Morsch set the school-record in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.01 seconds.

BW is back in action for the second day of the OAC Championships on Friday, February 15.  Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m.   The OAC Championships will be contested on Saturday, February 16.
