Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Ohio Northern in Return to OAC Action

ADA, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned to Ohio Athletic Conference action and was defeated by Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center Natatorium.

BW (3-6, 1-2 OAC) lost to Ohio Northern by a final score of 160-75.   

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) as he won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:51.87 and took third in the 100-yard freestyle and 500-yard freestyle in times of 50.97 seconds and 5:35.06.

Also earning a victory were sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) and freshman diver Tanner Elenbaas (Aurora, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley). Morsch won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:05.16 and took third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.75.  Elenbaas won the 1-meter event with a career-best 188.65 points and was third in the 3-meter event with a career-best 146.70 points.

In addition, freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:02.33 and the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:16.59. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) was third in both the 50-yard freestyle and the 200-yard butterfly in times of 22.76 and 2:07.14.  Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) was second in the 3-meter with a score of 149.15.

In relay action, the 200-medley relay team of Morsch, Lewis, Shaw and senior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) took second in a time of 1:41.22.

BW returns home to the friendly confines of the BW Natatorium on Saturday, January 19 when it hosts an OAC dual match against crosstown rival John Carroll University on the Celebration of BW Swimming and Diving at 1 p.m.
