Men’s Swimming and Diving Drops Non-Conference Dual to Penn State Behrend

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams dropped a non-conference dual meet to Penn State Behrend College in the team's third straight home meet inside the BW Natatorium.

BW (2-3, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) fell by a final score of 130-86 to the Lions.

Freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) continues to turn heads in his freshman campaign as he set a BW Natatorium record for the second consecutive day, this time by winning the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:19.46. The freshman also had a runner-up finish in the 200-yard breaststroke as he touched the wall in 2:15.76.  Junior All-OAC diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) was the Yellow Jackets other individual event winner as he won both the 1-meter diving events with totals of 171.75 and 114.50 points.

Additional runner-up finishes also came from senior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial), freshman diver Tanner Elenbaas (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley), and junior All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs). Beyer took second in the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best 23.13 seconds. Elenbaas was second in the 1-meter, six-dive event as he totaled 163.50 points while Shaw swam to a second place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:08.38.

In relay action, senior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), sophomore stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario), freshman stroker Christian Velasquez (Fulshear, Texas/Seven Lakes) and sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Ontario) combined for a first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a combined time of 1:36.47. Meanwhile, the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), Lewis, Shaw and Beyer were the runners-up in 1:41.09.

BW will compete again at the two-day Diamond City Invitational Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18, hosted by King's (Pa.) College at the Wyoming Valley Catholic Youth Center in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
