Men's Swimming and Diving Team Falls to NCAA Division II Rollins (Fla.)

WINTER PARK, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team closed out the 2018 portion of its schedule as it was defeated by NCAA Division II Rollins (Fla.) College on its annual winter break trip. 

BW (3-4) were defeated by Rollins by a final score of 116-64. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) as he won the 50-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 27.34 seconds and was second in the 100-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 55.88. 

In addition, junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) took second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.37 and was third in the 50-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 24.30. Sophomore stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario) was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:58.39.  Sophomore freestyler Conner Hartup (Westlake) was third in the 50-yard breaststroke in a career-best time of 34.76. Sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) finished second in the 50-yard backstroke in a time of 26.63.  Freshman freestyler Christian Velasquez (Fulshear, Texas/Seven Lakes) took third in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 2:01.34 and was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:15.65.

In relay action, the 200-medley relay unit of Morsch, Lewis, Shaw and sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) touched the wall first in a time of 1:04.19.  The 200-freestyle relay squad of senior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), Hartup, Velasquez and senior stroker John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) took second in a season-best time of 1:40.99 

BW is now idle until after the Holiday Break when they travel to Canton on Friday, January 11 for a non-conference dual meet against NCAA Division II Malone University in the C.T. Branin Natatorium at 7 p.m.
