Men's Swimming and Diving Teams Wins Home Opener vs. Manchester (Ind.)

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams opened the home portion of its scheduled by defeating Manchester (Ind.) University in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (2-1) defeated Manchester by a final score of 128-36.  

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf), sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) and freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) as the trio won a pair of events.  Butt brought home victories in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle in season-best times of 50.68 seconds and 1:54.91.  Morsch captured the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley in career-best times of 58.06 and 2:09.05. Lewis earned multiple victories for the third time this season with wins in the 100-yard breaststroke and 500-yard freestyle in a time of 1:01.98 and a career-best 5:04.00.

Also picking up wins were senior stroker John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) and sophomore stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario).  Beyer won the 1000-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 11:27.41.  Cordrey picked up the victory in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 56.43.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay team of Morsch, Lewis, junior All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) and Butt touched the wall first in a time of 1:43.17.  The 400-yard freestyle unit of Beyer, senior stroker Tyler Allison (Napoleon), freshman stroker Christian Velasquez (Fulshear, Texas/Seven Lakes) and Cordrey won in a time of 3:39.10

BW remains at home on Friday, November 9 when it hosts an OAC dual meet against the University of Mount Union at 7 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets then host a non-conference dual meetagainst Penn State Behrend College on Saturday, November 10 at 1p.m.
