Swimming and Diving Teams Fall to John Carroll on Celebration of Rebirth of Yellow Jacket Swimming and Diving

BEREA, Ohio. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams returned home to the friendly confines of the BW Natatorium for the first time since November and was defeated by crosstown rival John Carroll University in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet.

During the halfway point of the meet, BW celebrated the 30th Anniversary of the Rebirth of BW Swimming and Diving.

The Yellow Jacket men (3-7, 1-3 OAC) lost to John Carroll by a final score of 192-46.  The BW women (5-6, 1-3 OAC) fell to the Blue Streaks by a final score of 135-102

The men's team was led by freshman stroker Michael Lewis (Lancaster) was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:05.20 and the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:03.53.

In addition, freshman diver Tanner Elenbaas (Aurora, Ill. / Waubonsie Valley) took second in the 1-meter five dive event with a season-best 149.85 points. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) was third in the 1-meter five dive event with a total of 136.70 points.  Junior All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 52.76 seconds.   Sophomore freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) took third in the 100-yard freestyle and the 200-yard freestyle in times of 50.58 and 1:53.89.  Sophomore stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) took third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 57.13.

The women's team was led by junior Academic All-OAC diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) as she won both 1-meter diving events.  Clymer claimed the five-dive event with a season-best 133.95 points, the six-dive event with a career-best 185.05 points and took third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:13.33.

Also earning a victory were junior All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley), freshman stroker Madeleine Pierce (Perry) and freshman stroker Bella Ratino (Mentor/Hawken) as all won an event. Jacob won the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:18.27.  Pierce won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:04.59 and took second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.95 seconds. Ratino won the 1000-yard freestyle for the third straight meet in a time of 11:01.45 and was second in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:19.30.

In addition, junior All-OAC freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) finished second in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:03.66 and was third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:30.49.  junior All-OAC stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) finished second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:01.97. Freshman stroker Kayla McClintock (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) was the runner-up in the 1000-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 11:01.63. Senior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) was third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.48. Sophomore All-OAC diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak) finished third in the 1-meter five dive event with 105.35 points. Sophomore stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill. /Lyons Township) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 1:04.01.

In relay action, the 200-medley relay squad of Kural, Thorson, junior stroker Alyssa Mahle (Aurora) and sophomore stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) took second in a time of 2:03.42.  The 200-yard freestyle unit of Pierce, junior freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), Ratino and Onchuck took second in a time of 1:46.77.

BW returns home to the friendly confines of the BW Natatorium on Saturday, January 19 when it hosts an OAC dual match against crosstown rival John Carroll University on the Celebration of BW Swimming and Diving at 1 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season with a home meet against Case Western Reserve University and NCAA Division II Ursuline College on Seniors' Day in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
