BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) partnered with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) for a Special Olympics event on Saturday, April 6.
After reaching out to chapters in northeast Ohio and beyond, the event brought together 24 Special Olympic athletes from Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas counties along with 40 BW student-athletes.
While the day mostly centered around 3-on-3 basketball, BW athletes also offered skill sessions such as football target throw, baseball target throw, soccer shootout, free throw contest and 40-meter dash.
"I am quite proud of our Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets and how they opened their hearts and athletic talents to our guests from the Special Olympic Organization this past Saturday," said Head Swimming and Diving Coach and Assistant Coordinator of Student-Athlete Services Laura Demaline. "It was a very special day for everyone involved – I think it was a great sign that, when the day was over, no one wanted to leave! We are looking forward to another successful partnership with the Special Olympics regional chapters next year."
Nothing better than kicking off your weekend with @SpecialOlympics! Shout outs to @bwathletics & @NACDA for hosting such an exciting event! #whyd3 #D3Week pic.twitter.com/iql15YylGo
