TIFFIN, Ohio -- Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored a game-high 25 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team beat host and OAC rival Heidelberg University, 77-74, in the Sieberling Gymnasium. The win gave BW a sweep of the season series and was its 10th straight versus the Student Princes dating back to January 26, 2011.
In addition to Kuhn for BW (11-9, 6-7 OAC), sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) scored 11 points and had a game and career-high tying 17 rebounds. Heidelberg (10-10, 5-8 OAC) was led by Kiere Bennie's 14 points.
In the first half, Heidelberg opened with the first two baskets for a 4-0 lead at 18:59 before the Yellow Jackets went on a 9-2 run to take a 9-6 lead at 15:54 when freshman point guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/ Lincoln) made two foul shots. BW remained ahead by three at 13-10 at 11:22 on a jump shot by sophomore forward Jordan Richardson (Beachwood), but the Student Princes outscored the Jackets 10-3 to regain their largest lead of the stanza at 20-16 at 8:55.

The Jackets had their largest lead of the first period at 30-25 at 4:34 when senior Academic All-OAC guard Zach Warner (Clyde) made a layup. But Heidelberg tied it at 33 at 1:01 and grabbed the halftime lead at 35-33 when it scored with four seconds left.

Heidelberg came back with 11-4 run of its own to take a 50-49 lead at 14:13. BW had a mini-run of 7-2 to take a 56-52 lead at 11:07 when Richardson banged down a triple, but Heidelberg returned the favor again with a 6-2 run to lead 58-56 at 9:16.
After Heidelberg assumed a 61-60 lead, BW scored the next eight points to take a 68-61 lead at 4:04 when junior guard Brandon Gleim (Hilliard/ Davidson) nailed a trey. BW also led by seven points at 74-67 with 55 seconds left when Fetherolf made a layup. The Berg outscored BW 7-1 to close the gap to 75-74 with 19 seconds left
BW had a chance to extend the lead with 11.7 seconds left, but missed the front end of a 1-and-1. After a miss by the Student Princes and a Fetherolf rebound, he was fouled with 3.6 ticks on the clock left. After a HU timeout, Fetherolf made both free throw for a 77-74 advantage. The Student Princes had one more chance to tie it but its three-pointer was off the mark and BW earnedc a hard-fought win.
BW is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 6 when the Yellow Jackets host OAC rival Otterbein University in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 3 p.m. That day is both the 10-year anniversary of BW's 2005-2006 OAC regular season and OAC Tournament championship team that played in the 2006 NCAA Tournament. That team will be honored prior to the game. It also is the annual Al Sirat Grotto Day with partial gate proceeds going to benefit children with cerebral palsy.
