Men’s Basketball Overpowers Quakers in Second Half

BEREA, Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Wilmington College, 80-58, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (7-3, 3-2 OAC) won its third straight game against the Quakers and was led by sophomore guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion), freshman guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln), and Zach Warner (Clyde). Kuhn led the team in scoring with 19 points and Battle scored 14 points and added six assists.  Warner scored eleven points off of the bench and was three of five from beyond the arc.

Wilmington (1-8, 0-5 OAC) was led by junior forward Ben Chase who scored 21 points and tallied up nine rebounds.

In the first 14 minutes of play, the game went back and forth as the game was tied on four different occasions the last coming at 22-22 when Quaker forward Matt McCorkle made a layup. The Yellow Jackets went on a 13-8 run to close out the first half and had a 35-30 at intermission.

Wilmington started the second half with a 9-4 run to tie the game at 39-39. BW went on a 21-7 run to make the score 60-46 at the 9:20 mark. The Yellow Jackets continued making shots to keep Wilmington at a distance ending the game on a 20-12 run.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 29-30 when they travel to Defiance, Ohio to play in the Defiance Purple and Gold Tournament. BW plays North Park (Ill.) on Dec. 29 at 5 p.m. The consolation and championship games are on Dec. 30 at 5 and 7 p.m.​
