Men’s Basketball Team Wins at Muskingum, 81-74

NEW CONCORD, Ohio --  Sophomore guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) scored 20 points as the Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team beat host Muskingum University, 81-74, in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Performance Court inside the Muskingum Recreation Center. The victory was BW's second straight this season and third straight against the Fighting Muskies.

In addition to Kuhn for BW (6-2, 2-1 OAC), freshman guard Jay Battle (Gahanna Lincoln) had  16 points and eight assists and sophomore forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk) had his seventh double-figure scoring and rebounding game this season with 14 points and 14 rebounds. The Fighting Muskies (3-6, 0-3 OAC) were led by freshman guard Jarrell Battle with a game-high 23 points and senior center Cody Seiler had 15 points.

In the first half, Muskingum grabbed a 4-0 lead before BW outscored the Fighting Muskies 9-2 to take a 9-6 lead at 13:03 when Kuhn made one of two foul shots. The game was tied two times and there were six lead changes before BW took a 24-21 lead on a three-pointer by Battle at 6:27.

The Yellow Jacket lead grew to nine at 38-29 when Fetherolf made one of two charity tosses at 1:12, and BW led 38-32 at the intermission. Battle and Fetherolf led BW with nine points apiece in the first stanza.

In the second half, Muskingum came out firing on all cylinders and outscored BW 12-3 to take a 44-41 lead at 17:17 when Marsh canned his second triple in 1:04. The lead grew to seven at 51-44 at 13:47.

BW came right back to outscore Muskingum 16-5 to retake a four point lead at 60-56 with 8:52 left when Battle scored and was fouled but missed his subsequent free throw attempt. The Muskies tied it again at 60-all.

The Yellow Jacket again went on a run and outscored Muskingum 11-4 to take a 71-64 lead with 4:16 left when Battle canned a trey and forced first-year Fighting Muskie coach Travis Schwab to utilize a timeout.  Twice Muskingum got within three points with the last at 1:00 when Seiler grabbed a rebound and scored to make it 73-72. But on the ensuing possession BW senior forward Zach Warner (Clyde) canned a triple with 32.4 seconds left to push the lead back to six at 78-72.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, December 16 when they travel to Marietta, Ohio to play the Marietta College Pioneers in the Ban Johnson Fieldhouse at 7:30 p.m. The next BW home game is on Saturday, Dec. 19 versus Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center at 3 p.m
