BALDWIN WALLACE INFORMATION:

SPORTS PLAYED AT BW (YEARS AND LETTERS WON): As a senior in 2011, John played his fourth season of football and earned his second varsity letter as a senior. As a junior in 2010, John competed in his third season of football and earned his first varsity letter. 

  

GENERAL FOOTBALL INFORMATION: John had a solid four-year football career. B-W had a 23-17 record during his four seasons in the Brown & Gold. He earned two varsity letters, recorded 82 career tackles, including 36 solo, one and a half tackles for loss, a half sack, one forced fumble, three fumbles recovered including one returned for a touchdown, two interceptions including one returned for a touchdown and he had three pass deflections.

As a freshman in 2008, John played his first season of football and saw playing time at outside linebacker for the junior varsity squad.

As a sophomore in 2009, John played in his second season of football. He saw playing time on the junior varsity team, and saw some action on the varsity at OLB and on special teams. He earned his second certificate of participation for his efforts.

As a junior in 2010, John competed in his third season of football and played in all 10 games.  He saw action both at OLB and on specials teams and totaled 31 tackles, 0.5 quarterback sacks for a loss of four yards, deflected three passes and had one interception. He rotated at OLB and earned his first varsity letter for his efforts.

As a senior in 2011, John  played his fourth season of football. Throughout the season, John rotated at the OLB position with senior teammates J.J. Laseak (Mentor) and Brett Thompson (Shelby) and at middle linebacker with senior Matt Higgenbotham (Hartville/ Uniontown Lake). The highlight of John's season came on the opening week of the season when he returned a fumble 69 yards for a touchdown in a 23-0 win at The College of Wooster on Sept. 1, 2011 and ran an interception back 48 yards for a TD in a 17-7 win versus Marietta. John also had an interception returned it for a touchdown against Marietta came that gave B-W a 10-7 lead at that point in the ball game. John finished his senior year with 23 solo tackles 28 assisted tackles totaling 51 total tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss, forced one fumble and recovered three and had one interception.

HIGH SCHOOL HONORS, SPECIFY SPORT & YEAR: (ALL-CONFERENCE, DISTRICT,  ETC.):  In football. John was a member of back-to-back OHSAA Division I state runner-up Mentor football teams (2006 and 2007), player of the week six times over his junior and senior seasons, eclipsed over one hundred tackles each of his junior and senior seasons, earned first team All-Lake Erie League as a senior, second team All-Lake County News-Herald as a senior and was voted Mentor's Most Outstanding Linebacker his senior season in football.

In wrestling, John also was a two time state qualifier, two time sectional champ, two time district runner-up and sixth in the state as a senior in wrestling along with earning first team All-Lake Erie League his junior and senior seasons, Most Valuable Wrestler in the Lake Erie League his senior season, first-team All-Lake County News-Herald as a junior and senior, News-Herald Division I Wrestler of the Year as a senior, voted captain his senior season and set Mentor's school record for career wins with 129.
