Baldwin-Wallace Baseball Team Splits Doubleheader at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader today (Saturday, April 30) against Muskingum University in New Concord.  The Fighting Muskies won the first game, 4-2, and the Yellow Jackets captured the nightcap, 5-2.

With the split, B-W is now 16-16 overall and 4-10 in the OAC and plays another league doubleheader at Wilmington College at 1:00 p.m.  The Fighting Muskies are now 13-21 overall and 6-10 in the OAC.

In the first game, the Fighting Muskies scored two of their four runs in the bottom of the third inning off of sophomore starter David Redovian (Fairlawn/ Copley). The Yellow Jackets scored their only two runs in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore centerfielder Nolan Neuschaefer (Elyria) doubled home junior shortstop Anthony Longhitano (Cuyahoga Falls). Neuschaefer would later score on a wild pitch.

At the plate, Neuschaefer led the Yellow Jackets with a hit, run scored, and the only run batted in. Also, junior outfielderAnthony D'Attoma (Copley) provided a hit of his own. 

On the mound, Redovian went the distance for the Yellow Jackets. In his eighth start, he pitched six innings that allowed five hits, two earned runs, and struck out five Muskie batters. With the loss, Redovian's record now stands at two wins and five losses.

In the nightcap, Muskingum led off the first inning by scoring the games first run. The Yellow Jackets then took the lead by scoring two runs in the top of the third inning. In the bottom of the third, the Fighting Muskies answered by scoring one of their own to tie the score at two a piece. The Yellow Jackets then pulled away by shuting down the Muskingum offense and scoring one run in the top of the fourth and two in the ninth.

At the plate, sophomore leftfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute)led the Yellow Jacket offense by providing a double and home run. Toughey also had three runs batted in. Sophomore third baseman Jay Yost (Bascom/ Hopewell-Loudon) also had two hits at the plate.  

On the mound, junior right hander Josh Scott (Strongsville) picked up his fourth win on the season as he pitched eight innings while allowing two runs (one earned) on eight hits and striking out seven batters. Sophomore reliever Jon Tenley (Wadsworth), came in to close in the ninth for the Yellow Jackets and only allowed one hit.  

Following its trip to Wilmington tomorrow, B-W returns to Berea for its final exams and then ends its regular season next Saturday, May 7 with an OAC doubleheader in Columbus against Capital University at 1:00 p.m.
