CANTON, OHIO -- The Baldwin-Wallace College baseball team swept NAIA Malone University in a non-conference doubleheader today (Saturday, March 26) by scores of 7-0 and 2-1 at Thurman Munson Stadium.
With the wins, the Yellow Jackets improve to 10-4 overall and have won six straight games. Malone falls to 19-9 overall.
In game one, the Yellow Jackets erupted for five runs, including three on a bases loaded error by the centerfielder in the second inning. On the mound, sophomore Pat Havens (Twinsburg) came away with his second win of the season, pitching six innings allowing zero runs with four strikeouts and four walks.
At the plate, sophomore infielder Jay Yost (Bascom/Hopewell-Loudon) led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double and a stolen base. Junior outfielder Anthony D�Attoma (Copley) also went 2-for-3 with RBI. Sophomore outfielder Brendan Toughey (East Amherst, N.Y./ St. Josephs Collegiate) contributed by going 3-for-4 with a stolen base.
In the second game, the Yellow Jackets were led by current OAC, NCBWA and D3baseball.com Pitcher of the Week junior Josh Scott (Strongsvillle) who went six and a third innings and struck out ten Pioneer batters. Sophomore pitcher Jon Tenley (Wadsworth) came in during the seventh and shut the door on the Pioneers to pick up his first save of the season. On offense, Toughey went 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base, and sacrifice bunt. Also at the plate, senior catcher John Ulanski (Bay Village/Bay) hit 1-for-3 with a walk and stolen base.
B-W is back in action on Tuesday March 29th, when they travel to cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University for a non-conference game.
