Volleyball Team Falls 3-0 at Capital University

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team fell in its second OAC match-up to Capital University, 3-0, tonight (Wednesday, October 1) at The Capital Center in Columbus. Capital won by the scores of 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 8-10 overall and 0-2 in the OAC and Capital is 17-4 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. B-W next plays on Saturday, Oct. 4 when it hosts OAC-rival Mount Union College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center at 1:00 p.m.
 
Despite the loss, B-W was led offensively by freshman Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) and  senior Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y. / Mt. St. Mary Academy) with 10 kills apiece and Leslie Purnell (Springfield / Catholic Central) with nine.  In addition, sophomore setter Casey Passen (Ashville / Teays Valley) led the way with 30 set assists.
 
On defense, freshman Chelsea Nissen (Willison / Genoa) led the Jackets with 15 digs while freshman libero Danielle Gerwin (Bowling Green) totaled 13. 
 
Following its match versus Mt. Union, B-W remains home to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 7:00 p.m. in a match that will be billed as the Dig for the Cure match that will benefit the Susan G. Koman for the Cure and Breast Cancer Research at the Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals of Cleveland. To learn more, please log onto the Susan G.
