Volleyball Team Falls 3-1 at Home to Mount Union

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team lost  to visiting Mount Union College, 3-1, at the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea today (October 4, 2008). 

With its loss, the Yellow Jackets are now 8-11 overall and 0-3 in the OAC while Mount Union improves to 16-6 overall and 2-1 in the OAC. B-W next plays on Tuesday, Oct. 7 when it hosts OAC and cross-town rival John Carroll University at 7:00 p.m.

The match will be billed as a -Dig for the Cure- event to benefit the Susan G. Koman Foundation for breast cancer.

Against Mount Union, B-W was led offensively by freshman Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) with 11 kills. She also had 16 defensive digs and three blocks. Senior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y. / Mt. St. Mary Academy) had 10 kills and three blocks.  In addition, sophomore setter Casey Passen (Ashville / Teays Valley) led the way with 23 set assists while junior setter Kayli Tyson (Olmsted Falls) had 14.

On defense, freshman libero Danielle Gerwin (Bowling Green) led the team with 17 digs and a kill while freshman defensive specialist Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) had 15 digs.
