Volleyball Team Finishes 1-2 at Thomas More (Ky.) Quad

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team went 1-2 today (Saturday, September 20, 2008) at the Thomas More (Ky.) Quad.  With its 1-2 record today, B-W is now 6-6 overall.

In the first match, the Yellow Jackets fell to the host school, Thomas More, by a 25-16, 25-19, 25-9 score.  Leading the way for B-W was senior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y./Mount St. Mary Academy)with eight kills, two solo blocks and three blocks.  Sophomore defensive specialist Lissy Grame (Berea) had 10 digs defensively, while sophomore Casey Passen(Ashville/Teays Valley) recorded 19 set assists.


The Yellow Jackets rebounded in their second match of the day to defeat Piedmont (Ga.) by a line score of 25-16, 25-20, 15-25, 25-18.  Freshman right side hitter Leslie Purnell(Springfield/Catholic Central) led the Yellow-Jackets with 10 kills.  Passen added 29 assists and sophomore defensive specialist Rebecca Pittenger (Alliance/Senior) had nine digs and five service aces.

In their final match of the day, B-W fell to Centre (Ky.) by a score of 25-18, 21-25, 25-19, 25-22.DePeters led the way offensively with 13 kills, while freshman outside hitter Nicole Schoen(Bellevue) added 10 kills.  Passen tallied 32 assists and junior setter Kayli Tyson (Olmsted Twp./Olmsted Falls) had 11 digs and five service aces.


The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to play conference foe Wilmington College at the Fred Raizk Arena at 7:00 p.m.
