Volleyball Team Defeats Marietta, 3-1, in Marietta

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Marietta College, 3-1, today (Saturday, October 18, 2008) in Ban Johnson Arena in Marietta, Ohio.  The win was B-W's first in the conference in 2008.

The win improves B-W's record to 10-16 overall and 1-5 in the OAC.  Marietta falls to 13-13 overall and 1-5 in the OAC.

B-W was led offensively by senior middle hitter Maria DePeters (Buffalo, N.Y.) with 19 kills and freshman middle hitter Chelsea Nissen (Williston/ Genoa) with 10 kills.  In addition, sophomore setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) recorded 43 set assists.

On defense, four players recorded double-digits digs.  Sophomore Lissy Grame (Berea) led with 24 digs, and was followed by Nissen with 22, Passen with 15 and freshman Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) with 11.  DePeters had three blocks to lead the team.

B-W will return to action Tuesday, October 21 when it hosts OAC foe Otterbein College at 7:00 p.m. in Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Recreation Center in Berea.
