Volleyball Team Falls to Case Western Reserve University

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team (5-4) fell 3-0 to Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University (6-3) at the Ursprung Gymnasium on Wednesday evening (September 10, 2008).  

Case Western captured the first two games, each tightly-contested, by identical 25-23 scores. B-W opened the third game with a quick 5-0 run but the Spartans responded with a 12-2 run of their own to take a 12-7 lead. The Yellow Jackets were unable to recover as Case took the third and final set, 25-13.

B-W was led offensively by senior four-year starting middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./ Mt. St. Mary Academy) with 17 kills and freshman outside hitter Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) with 10. In addition, sophomore setter Casey Passen (Ashville/ Teays Valley) led the way with 31 assists. On defense, Passenand sophomore Lissy Grame (Berea) each recorded 16 digs.

The Yellow-Jackets have the next week off from competition and will return to action on Saturday, September 20 at the Thomas More College (Ky.) Quad in Crestview Hills, Kentucky. B-W opens at 10:00 a.m. versus the hosts before taking on Piedmont (Ga.) and Centre (Ky.) at 12:00 and 3:00, respectively.
