Volleyball Team Goes 1-1 on Day Two of MTSJ Fall Classic

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin-Wallace College volleyball team (8-9 overall) completed day two of the Mount Saint Joseph Fall Classic today (Saturday, September 27, 2008) at the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. The Yellow Jackets fell to host and #23-ranked Mount Saint Joseph, 3-0, and closed out the day with a 3-1 victory over Hanover (Ind.). B-W finished the tournament with a record of 2-2.

In the first match, B-W was led offensively by senior four-year starting middle hitter Maria DePeters (Williamsville, N.Y./ Mt. St. Mary Academy) with seven kills and freshman Nicole Schoen (Bellevue) with five. In addition, junior setter Kayli Tyson (Olmsted Twp./Olmsted Falls) recorded seven assists.  On defense, freshman defensive specialist Danielle Gerwin (Bowling Green) paced the Jackets with 11 digs. 

Against Hanover, DePeters once again led the charge with 19 kills while Schoen added 15.  FreshmanChelsea Nissen (Williston/Genoa) contributed 10 kills as well as a team-high 10 digs defensively.  Sophomore setter Casey Passen (Ashville/Teays Valley) paced the Jacket offense with 49 assists.  In addition to Nissen's defensive efforts, Gerwin and sophomore defensive specialist Lissy Grame (Berea) recorded eight and seven digs, respectively.  The Yellow Jackets earned victory by scores of 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, and 26-24.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on Wednesday, October 1 when they travel to Columbus to play Ohio Athletic Conference rival Capital University.
