BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2013-2014 Ohio Athletic Conference seasonwith a victory against Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center.
The BW women, now 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC, defeated the Quakers, 158-81.
The women were led by senior Angela Musille (Canton /GlenOak) who won both the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard breaststroke with times of 2:21.85 and 1:06.62 respectively. Also winning two events for BW was sophomore Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) who won both the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard fly in times of 2:05.66 and 1:04.75 respectively. Senior Emma Gerdes (Avon) won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.74. Freshman Emilee Sebestyen (Mentor) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.87 seconds. Junior Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich. /Plymouth-Canton) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:43.96.
The 200-yard Medley relay team finished first with a time of 1:56.00. The team consisted of Gerdes, Sebestyen, Ashbaugh, and Musille.
In diving events sophomore Maddie Fortune (Akron / Firestone) won the 1-meter optional dive with a score of 149.05 and freshman Alice Clark (Fairview Park / Fairview) won the 1-meter voluntary dive with a score of 205.65.
The Yellow Jackets return to action next weekend when they will swim in the first two rounds of the Annual Cleveland College Dual Tournament. On Friday, Nov. 1, BW is at Oberlin College at 6:00 p.m. The second round site and opponent for Saturday, Nov. 2 is to be determined. The third and final round is on Saturday, Nov. 9.
