Women Swimmers & Divers Finish Sixth at Blue Devil Invitational

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's  swimming and diving teams finished seventh this weekend at the annual Fredonia State Blue Devil Invitational Meet.

BW placed sixth of nine schools with 316.50 points.

On the first day, senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC standout Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) led the way as she placed 11th in the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 2:18.30 and swam on the eighth place 800-yard free relay team in 8:25.08.

On the second day, Musille once again led the way she finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke in a season-best 1:09.07. She also was joined by senior Emma Gerdes (Avon), sophomore Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) and freshman Becca Weil (Ypsilanti, Mich./ Milan) on the seventh place 400 medley relay in a season-best time of 4:11.09.

On the third and final day, the women were led by freshman diver Alice Clark (Fairview Park/ Fairview) who was third in the 1-meter dive with 390.40 points and fourth in the 3-meter dive with 404.30 points. Sophomore diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/ Firestone) was sixth in the 1-meter event with 341.95 points and fifth in the 3-meter with 349.55 points.

In addition, Musille placed fifth in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:34.32 and set a season-best at 2:29.69 in the prelims; senior Caitlin Wilson (Wycombe, Pa. (Council Rock North) was tied for sixth in the 400 IM in 5:10.30 and Gerdes was sixth in 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.44 with a season-best of 1:02.14 in the prelims. The 400 free relay team of Ashbaugh, Weil, freshman Carly Croyle (Avon) and Musille placed sixth in 3:54.39.

The Yellow Jacket women are back in action this Saturday, December 14 when they host NCAA Division II Ursuline University in the BW Natatorium at 12:00 p.m. Following that meet, the swimmers and divers are idle until Saturday, January 4 when they swim against Transylvania (Ky.) University in an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet in Sarasota, Florida.
