BW Women's Swim Team Beat Hiram in Cleveland College Meet

OBERLIN, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's  swimming and diving team defeated Hiram College, 232-196, today in the second round of the Second Annual Cleveland College Dual Meet Championships at Oberlin College.  BW opened the tournament last night by losing to The College of Wooster.

The scoring for the meet was a combined team score instead of separate men's and women's scores.

The women were led by senior Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak) who won the 400-yard IM with a time of 5:04.62 and the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:35.22. Sophomore Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) took first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.00 and placed second in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:39.01. Senior Emma Gerdes (Avon) won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:19.69. Senior Caitlin Wilson (Wycombe, Pa./Council Rock North) placed first in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:34.20. Freshman Alice Clark (Fairview Park/Fairview) won the 1-meter diving event with 219.40 points and placed second in the 3-meter diving event with 226.30 points. Freshman Brianna Kljun (Columbia Station/Magnificat) won the 3-meter diving event with 226.60 points and placed second in the 1-meter diving event with 206.40 points. The 400-yard medley relay team consisting of Gerdes, Musille, Ashbaugh, and junior Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton) won in a time of 4:22.09.

In addition, Eyster placed second in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:04.33. Freshman Becca Weil (Ypsilanti, Mich./Milan) took second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:08.93 and the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:45.14. Senior Kayla Miller (Van Wert) placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.30 and the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:01.40. Junior Olivia Vocke (Napoleon) took second in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:44.57. The 400-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Vocke, Miller, senior Emily Deaton (Spanaway, Wash./Graham-Kapowsin), and Weil placed second in a time of 4:11.83.

Following today's second round at the Cleveland College meet, BW is off until Saturday, Nov. 9 when it competes in the third and final round. The next home meet is on December 14 when BW hosts Ursuline University in a women's-only dual meet in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center at 12:00 noon.
