Baldwin Wallace Swimming & Diving Teams Split with Transylvania (Ky.) in Berea

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team defeated visiting Transylvania (Ky.) University and the women's team lost to the Pioneers today (Friday, November 12, 2010) in dual meet action in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.

The BW men won, 202-84, to improve to 2-1-1 overall this season, but the Yellow Jacket women lost, 170-95, and are now 1-3 overall.  The teams are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Washington, Pennsylvania to compete against non-league foe Washington & Jefferson College in a dual meet at 1:00 p.m. BW returns home to host Ohio Athletic Conference rival the University of Mount Union on Friday, Nov. 19 at 6:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior 6-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton), senior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and freshman Elier Diaz (El Paso, Texas/Americas) as each won multiple events. Richert won both diving events with 271.20 and 189.45 points, respectively. Musille, who was the OAC Swimmer of the Week two weeks ago, won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:00.29 and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.08 seconds.  Diaz won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:06.13, the 200-yard backstroke in 2:05.44 and the 200-yard free in 1:51.66.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by freshman Emma Gerdes (Avon) who won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:03.94 and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:17.71. In addition, sophomore 2-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) won the one-meter optional and one-meter voluntary diving events with 240.40 and 172.50 points, respectively.

 Pinter is this week's OAC Female Swimming Athlete of the Week.

Following its meet at W&J, the BW swimmers and divers host Mount Union in Berea on Nov. 19 at 1:00 p.m. and then travel to Springfield, Ohio on Nov. 16 for a tri-meet against host Wittenberg University and against Oberlin College.
