Yellow Jacket Swimming & Diving Teams Both Hold To Fourth Place After Day Two of OAC Championships

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men and women's swimming and diving teams completed day two (Friday, February 18) of the 2011 Ohio Athletic Conference Championship meet at the University of Akron's Ocasek Natatorium in Akron. Each team continues to sit in fourth place.

Ohio Northern University's men currently hold the lead with 220 points compared to John Carroll University (140), the University of Mount Union (96), BW (90) and Wilmington College (35).  For the women, ONU has a leading total of 203 points followed by Mt. Union (142), JCU (97), BW (89) and WC (42).

Highlighting the second day of competition were school records set in the men's 400-yard individual medley, women's 200-yard medley relay, women's 100-yard backstroke, women's 1-meter dive and the men's and women's 100-yard breaststroke.

The men were led by senior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) who broke his previous record in the men's 100-yard breaststroke with a first place finish in a time of 57.76 seconds. Freshman Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) finished second and broke the previous school record in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:13.22. Also, six-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) won the men's 3-meter dive with a score of 476.85 points. In his four-year career, Richert has won two titles at 3-meters and placed second twice.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by two freshmen who had record-breaking efforts in Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and Emma Gerdes (Avon) and a record by two-time All-American in sophomore Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.). Gerdes finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a record time of 59.59 seconds and Musille was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a record time of 1:07.05. Both Gerdes and Musille contributed to the victorious 200-yard medley relay in a school-record 1:50.44. They were joined on the relay squad by sophomore Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa./ Villa Maria Academy) and senior Lauren Schaefer (Westlake). Pinter broke her previous 1-meter diving record with a score of 490.40 points and claimed her second straight OAC crown. Sophomore Erin O'Donnell (Perry) followed Pinter with a second place score of 431.45.

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams in each event earn All-OAC honors.  Top All-OAC finishers of the day for the men were Ryan Musille, Richert and Donohoe. For the women it was Gerdes, Angela Musille, Parker, Schaefer, O'Donnell and Pinter.

The meet concludes tomorrow, Saturday, February 19, with the preliminaries at 11:00 a.m. and the finals for those events beginning at 5:45 p.m.
