Baldwin Wallace Men Finish Fourth and Women Fifth at SUNY-Fredonia Swim Meet

BEREA, OHIO --Six Baldwin WallaceCollege swimmers and divers won individual titles as the men finished fourth and the women fifth at the annual SUNY-Fredonia Blue Devil Invite this weekend (Friday through Sunday, December 3-5, 2010) in Fredonia, New York.  Highlighting the meet were three school records set by the brother-sister tandem of senior Ryan Musille and younger sister and freshman Angela Musille (Canton/GlenOak)Angela posted records in the 100-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard breaststroke while Ryan set the record also in the 100-yard breaststroke.

The Yellow Jacket men had three first-place finishers in 40 events and scored 532 total points.  Leading the way was Musille who brought home two individual titles and senior six-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) with one event victory.  The women scored 394 total points and had three champions in 40 events. Leading the way were sophomore two-time All-American diver Julie Pinter (BroadviewHeights/ Brecksville-BroadviewHeights) with two individual titles and Musille with one.

On Saturday (Dec. 4), Musille set the 100-yard breaststroke school-record in the prelims with a time of 58.39 seconds and won the individual title with a 59.02-second clocking. On Friday (Dec. 3), he won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.88 seconds after a season-best 21.54-second clocking in the prelims.  On Saturday, Richert won the 1-meter diving event with 475.50 points and finished second in the 3-meter on Sunday with a total of 4:36.20

In addition the Yellow Jackets had a pair of runner-up finishers, as Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) took second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:22.56 and freshman Elier Diaz (El Paso, Texas/Americas) came in second in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:04.40.

Pinter led the women with a pair of diving victories as she captured the 3-meter event on Saturday with 411.15 points and won the 1-meter event on Sunday with 415.80 points.  Musille set a school-record with a 1:08.59 clocking and a first-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, the same event that her brother would set a school mark in one event later.  She also set the school-record with a time of 2:29.13 in the prelims while finishing second in the finals of the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:30.28

In addition BW had three other runner-up finishers, as freshman Emma Gerdes (Avon) would take home two second places finishes in the 200 individual medley and the 200-yard backstroke in times of 2:21.86 and 2:13.69 respectively.   Gerdes and Musille would team up with sophomores Gabby Parker (Girard, Pa. /Villa Maria Academy) and Kelsey Richards (Wadsworth) to finish second in the 200-yard medley relay in a time of 1:55.47

The Yellow Jacket swimmers and divers are now idle for final exams week and then the fall/winter semester break and will resume action on their annual southern trip to the State of Florida from December 28 through January 6, 2011.  The next home meet is on Friday, January 14 when BW hosts Hiram College and Allegheny (
Pa.) College in a tri-meet in the BW Natatorium in the LouHigginsCenter at 6:00 p.m.
