Yellow Jacket Men and Women Swimmers and Divers Both Lose at Ohio Northern in Ada

BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin Wallace University swimming and diving teams each lost today (Saturday, January 22, 2011) in Ohio Athletic Conference dual match competition in the ONU Sports Center in Ada. Despite the losses, the Yellow Jacket effort was highlighted by a record-setting performance by junior 4-time NCAA Division III All-American diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) in the three-meter optional event.

The BW men lost to the Polar Bears, 155-87, to fall to 6-5-1 overall and 2-1 in the OAC, while the women lost to ONU, 178-63, and are now 2-11 overall and 0-3 in the OAC.


Pinter led the Yellow Jackets as she won the 3-meter optional event with a school-record 287.20 points to surpass the previous record of 260.35 points by Kristen Demby in 2001. In addition, Pinter finished second to teammate and sophomore Erin O'Donnell (Perry) in the 1-meter event. O'Donnell won the event with 249.70 points and Pinter had 249.05 points. Also, freshman Emma Gerdes (Avon) won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:16.51.


The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior 6-time All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton) won the 1-meter optional event with 336.25 points, which was .65 shy of his Yellow Jacket school-record of 336.90 points, and he won the 3-meter optional event with 303.0 points. In addition, senior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:17.82 and freshman Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) won the 200-yard butterfly in 2:01.93.


The swimmers and divers are back in action next Saturday, January 29 when they host OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center at 1:00 p.m.  It is the final home meet of the season and it is Seniors' and Parents' Day.
