BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams each placed fourth in a meet during its annual Winter Break Training Trip to the "Sunshine State" of Florida on New Year's Day in Sarasota.
Despite the fourth place finish, the Yellow Jackets faced some of the best NCAA Division III competition in the nation as they competed against perennial Div. III champ Kenyon College, Washington University (Mo.) and the United States Coast Guard Academy (Conn.). Both the Kenyon men's and women's swim teams are ranked number one in the nation in the latest TYR College Swimming Coaches Association of America Division III Poll.
In the men's meet, Kenyon won with 194 points and was followed by "Wash. U" with 187, USCGA with 130 and BW with 65. In the women's meet, "Wash. U" had 198 points, Kenyon had 171, USCGA had 103 and BW scored 62.

The best finish for each Yellow Jacket team occurred in the 300-yard medley relay event as each team placed third. The women's trio of freshman Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak), freshman Emma Gerdes (Avon) and senior Lauren Schaefer (Westlake) combined for a 3:28.13 clocking, good for 12 points. The men's trio of freshman Elier Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Americas), older brother senior Hector Diaz (El Paso, Texas/ Cathedral) and freshman Patrick Donohoe (Columbus Bishop Watterson) combined for a 3:02.84 clocking and scored 12 points.
The Yellow Jacket men and women are back in action on Friday, January 14 when they host Cleveland cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the BW Natatorium of the Lou Higgins Center at 6:00 p.m.
