Baldwin Wallace Swimming & Diving Teams Beat and Tie Penn State Behrend in Berea

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team defeated visiting Penn State Behrend and the men's team tied the Lions today (Saturday, November 6, 2010) in dual meet action in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center in Berea.

The BW women won, 129-93, to improve to 1-2 overall this season, and the Yellow Jacket men tied, 119.5-119.5, and are now 1-1-1 overall.  The teams are back in action next weekend when they host Transylvania (Ky.) University on Friday in Bere at 6:00 p.m. and then travel to Washington, Pennsylvania on Saturday, Nov. 13 to swim against Washington & Jefferson College at 1:00 p.m.

The Yellow Jacket women were led by freshman Angela Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and freshman Emma Gerdes (Avon) as each swimmer won two events individually and swam on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. Musille, this week's Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week,  won the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:36.86 and the 400-yard individual medley in 5:04.72. Gerdes won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:19.52 and the 200-yard freestyle in 2:08.99. In addition, sophomore Division III All-American diver Julie Pinter (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) won the one-meter optional and one-meter voluntary diving events with 259.50 and 167.95 points, respectively.

The Yellow Jacket men were led by senior Division III All-American diver Todd Richert (North Royalton), senior Ryan Musille (Canton/ GlenOak) and freshman Patrick Donohoe (Columbus/ Bishop Watterson) as each won  a pair of events. Richert won both diving events with 289.30 and 182.34 points, respectively. Ryan Musille, this week's OAC Men's Swimmer of the Week, won the 100-yard free in 49.76 seconds and the 50-yard free in 22.47 seconds.  Donohoe won the 400-yard IM in 4:27.90 and the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:21.98.

Following its two meets next weekend, the BW swimmers and divers host Ohio Athletic Conference rival the University of Mount Union for a dual meet in Berea on Nov. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
