BEREA, Ohio. – The No. 9-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished in second place at the 31st Annual John Summa Invitational in the Lou Higgins Center Field House.

BW had finished second of 13 teams with a final score of 119.5 points. No. 24-nationally ranked Wabash College won the invitational with a final score of 165.5 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by, freshman 125-pounder Nicholas Berry (Dayton/Carroll) Berry finished in second place. He received byes to the quarterfinals then won by fall, won by major decision and lost to the No. 9-national ranked wrestler in the finals.  and 

Freshman 125-pounder Christian Wellman (Applecreek/Waynedale), sophomore 174-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison), freshman 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere),  junior 197-pounder James Ritchie (Carlisle) and junior 285-pounder Andrew Sierawski (Delaware/Hayes) each placed third. Wellman advanced after he won by major decision twice, lost by technical fall, won by decision and won the third place match by medical forfeit. Ransom advanced to the quarterfinals by way of a bye and a fall, lost by decision, by technical fall and won the third place match by decision. Lehman made his way to the semifinals by way of a bye, a fall, won by decision, lost the semifinal match by decision and won the third place match by decision. After a bye Ritchie won by decision, won by pin fall, lost the semifinal bout by technical fall and won the third place match by fall. Ritchie tied for quickest pin as he pinned his opponent in 20 seconds. After a bye Sierawski lost a tiebreaker, then picked up two pin fall victories, won by decision, earned another fall, won by medical forfeit and won the third place match by fall. Sierawski won the invitational award for most falls with four in 9:26. 

Freshman 125-pounder Louie Lachapelle (Maumee) and freshman 133-pounder Dante Ginnetti (Poland/ Seminary) finished fifth in their respected weight classes. Lachapelle won by fall, lost by fall, won three matches by decision and won his fifth place match by fall. Ginnetti after byes to the quarterfinals, won by fall twice, lost by fall in the semifinals, lost by fall and earned fifth place by medical forfeit.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, February 7 when it hosts Heidelberg University for an Ohio Athletic Conference dual match in the Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:30 p.m.
