Wrestlers Compete on Day One of NCAA DIII Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. – Four student-athletes of the Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team is competed on day one of the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Lacrosse inside the La Crosse Center.

BW is 19th of 58 teams with 12.5 points. The defending National Champion Wartburg (Iowa) College are in first with 83 points.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore All-OAC 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) as he advanced to the semifinals with a 2-0 record. Arroyo defeated the No. 7 seed by decision and pinned the No. 2 seed at the 6:42 mark in the quarterfinal bout.

Senior All-OAC 141-pounder Josh Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy), junior 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green) and junior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green) each were knocked out of their respective weight classes. Decatur won by decision twice, lost in the quarterfinals, and lost in the consolation bracket to finish the year with a 23-15 record. Doyle lost his first match to the No. 3 seed by decision, won by decision and lost by decision to end the year with a 27-14 record. Mahaney lost to the No. 2 seed and lost in the consolation bracket to finish the year with a 27-8.

The NCAA National Championships continue on Saturday, March 11 inside the La Crosse Center with the semifinal matches starting at 11 a.m.
