No. 9 Wrestling Beats Heidelberg for Share of OAC Crown

BEREA, Ohio – The ninth-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team earned a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 26-12 victory over Heidelberg University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (21-3, 5-0 OAC), who won its 10th straight dual match, now has won 12 straight OAC duals. Heidelberg (10-4, 4-1 OAC) dropped its third straight match against the Yellow Jackets.

BW was led by sophomore All-OAC 149-pounder Richie Burke (Ithaca, N.Y.) and sophomore All-OAC 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee). Burke pinned his opponent at the 4:48 mark and Arroyo earned a technical fall as he posted a score of 17-0.

In addition, junior All-OAC 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green), sophomore 157-pounder Benjamin Hooff (Worthington/Thomas Worthington) and sophomore 174-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison) each won by major decision. Doyle won by a count of 11-2, Hooff earned a 10-0 victory and Ransom won by a score of 14-5. Junior All-OAC 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) earned a 3-1 decision in overtime.

BW looks to win the outright OAC title for the second straight year on Tuesday, February 14 when it travels to Alliance for its final regular season dual match against the University of Mount Union in the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex at 7:30 p.m.
